People are Paths (short)

Pele, 2024

Streets are usually named after people, because some people are streets.
Some people are a path, or a road, or a highway connecting cities to eachother. Each town is holding a uniqe kind of awareness and arousal  (Eer, Er, Orrerut in Hebrew).
People are streets, or roads and paths that connect houses and neighborhoods to one another. Some go out of the boundaries of a town to connect it to another one, far away.

Some people are paths that connect the earth to the heaven, or to the abyss.

There are also people, so said the great Hasidic masters, who are paths through which abundance travels from heavens to the physical world.

The Talmud speaks about a miracle maker named Rabbi Hanina and says:

"Each and every day a gentle voice goes out of heaven and declares: ‘The whole world is nourished for the sake of (“Be-Shvil”, in Hebrew) my son Hanina’…”. (Ta’anit 24/2)

The Hasidic mystic book “Noam Elimelech” interpreted it: "Rabbi Hanina made a path (“Shvil” in Hebrew) and opened the channels through which the whole world was fed" ("Noam Elimelech", Parashat Hayei Sara, according to the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov in the book "Ketar Shem Tov")

Ask yourself: what am I connecting in my life? What type of a “street” am I? Am I a city street, or an interstate road? Do I have a lot of traffic lights or am I a freeway? Maybe I'm a trail in the mountains for experienced hikers? Does one need special equipment to walk my path?

Some of us are born to open new ways, where there was no path before. These are the trailblazers. The prophet Micah said about them, "One who makes a breach goes before them” (Book of Micah 2:13). These people are fence breakers and boundary crossers by nature. They walk with a machete through the jungle of life.

Others are born to take paths that have already been cleared and pave them down, make them fit for the safe passage of everybody.

About the work of these two types of people it is said in the book of Ecclesiastes: “A time for tearing down, and a time for building up”.

Ask yourself: am I a pioneer type who opens new roads, or the paver of existing roads? And how does this manifest in my life? And what about the pioneers? How do I see them? Do I see them as people who do an important service for humanity, or as people who are dangerous to the public? Or maybe both?

What path of life or trail of consciousness would you wish to be named after you?
